FROM THE TAG: Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month

By Maj. Gen. Michael Berry

To the Women and Men Heroes Serving the Delaware National Guard:

Thank you for your continued service and commitment.   The month of April is

Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.  As we continue to take

precaution and preventative measures in the midst of this COVID-19 pandemic,

please ensure we continue to take preventative measures to prevent sexual

assault.

Taking care of each and every victim of sexual assault within our community

is something myself and your Delaware National Guard leadership takes

seriously.  We could not operate successfully without you and we are so

proud to work with you against this invisible war.

As we are challenged with ensuring the safety of ourselves, our families and

the community by social distancing, we hope this provides the opportunity to

reflect upon the progress we have made in establishing a response-focused

infrastructure that supports Service Members who report a sexual assault. It

is important that each and every member continue to understand existing

processes,  including how to contact a sexual assault response coordinator,

how to make a report (whether restricted or unrestricted) and the type of

resources, and support available to sexual assault victims, to include the

DoD Safe Helpline (information here).

"Protecting our people protects our mission" is the continued messaging

across all branches of service.  Together, we can advance our mission to

provide a military culture where sexual assault and other negative behaviors

are not tolerated, condoned, or ignored, and alleged offenders are held

appropriately accountable.

If you are interested in assisting the program as a victim advocate or are a

victim of sexual assault and would like information or to file a report,

please contact our Joint Force Headquarters Sexual Assault Response

Coordinator, Ms. Estelle Murray at 302-985-7403.  All calls are

CONFIDENTIAL.

Stay safe and vigilant!

MICHAEL R. BERRY
