DELAWARE NATIONAL GUARD COMMANDER PROMOTES TO MAJOR GENERAL

Delaware National Guard Public Affairs

Delaware National Guard’s Adjutant General Michael Berry promoted to the rank of Major General by Delaware Governor John Carney during a promotion ceremony outside of Legislative Hall in Dover, Del., Aug. 10th.

Maj. Gen. Berry showed his appreciation to the hundreds of Delaware Guardsmen, family and friends who were there to witness the occasion.

“Today’s promotion is not as much about the individual as it is about the system, which requires the completion of these leadership opportunities,” said Berry. “This system requires all levels of leadership to have faith in subordinates to accomplish their missions and lead our service members with sound, moral and ethical judgement.”

Berry took the role as Adjutant General in March of this year.

As Adjutant General, Berry is responsible for the mission readiness of all Delaware National Guard units, to include over 1,500 Soldiers and 1,100 Airmen for both federal and state missions.

Governor Carney remarked about the long service record that Berry has to the state.

“I thought to myself, how much can one guy give to our little state,” said Carney. “You’re an example for all of us.”

Berry's military career began in September 1988 when he enlisted in the Delaware Army National Guard under the Reserve Officers' Training Corps Simultaneous Membership Program.

Berry received his commission through the Reserve Officers' Training Corps at the University of Delaware in May 1989.
